GENERAL HOSPITAL PASIGHAT AND ISO 9001:2008 ACCREDITATION
Pasighat General Hospital is the oldest and pioneer health institution in the state. Started as a small health institution in 1912, the institute has trekked through many a hurdles to reach the present status. The institution glorifying its grandeur is spreading the health care service beyond the border of districts of East Siang & State of Arunachal.
It is an honour for the State that General Hospital Pasighat by virtue of its congenial environment, dedicated workforce and the infrastructure setup, is selected under Quality Improvement Initiatives (ISO certification) of Regional Resource Centre for NE States (RRC-NE) as per Govt’s decision in a meeting held on 6th November 2008, under the chairmanship of Mission Director, NRHM, Govt of India. Accordingly, the Hospital is on supervision since June 2009 by ACME Consulting, Chennai, a consultancy engaged by National Health System Resource Centre (NHSRC), New Delhi, to provide technical support for initiating the work of ISO accreditation of the Hospital.
The initial steps for various quality improvement services have already been started, someof the fields of initiations undertaken are:
Various key authorities in the ISO certification project have visited the Hospital at different times to access & guide in the process.
1 Mr CS Ramakrishnan, VP, Acme Consulting, Chennai
2 Dr Saurav Basu, Senior Consultant, Acme Consulting, Chennai
3 Mr BG Menon, MD, Acme Consulting, Chennai
4 Dr JN Sahay, Advisor, NHSRC, New Delhi
5 Dr Dilip Singh, Advisor, RRC-NE, Guwahati
6 Dr JB Kalita, Senior Consultant, Acme Consulting, Chennai
The initial steps for various quality improvement services in GHP have been accomplished as far possible at local level. But the hurculean task ahead bestows on Govt’s initiation and support. All the ISO concerned authorities visited the hospital have stressed for improvements especially in 3 primary fields – (a) Manpower, (b) Infrastructure and (c) Equipments.
As per the gaps identified by the Consulting Agency, the foremost need of the hour is to implement the Public Healthcare facilities in the hospital, which we are lacking behind due to manpower shortage. It is practically impossible to attain the quality norms by the hospital since the development process is proportionately dependent upon State Govt’s active support and Technical partners’ able guidance. We firmly belive it is not that hard to triumph over the shortcomings with government’s intervention to evade the gaps to meet the mandatory Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) norms in terms of manpower, infrastructure, equipments & services prescribed by Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health & FW, Govt of India.
